Senator Larry Craig

On June 11, 2007, Senator Larry Craig was charged with lewd conduct for allegedly soliciting gay sex from an undercover police officer in the bathroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The officer provided proof of Craig's intent by explaining that Craig peered into his stall for several minutes, tapped his right foot against the officer's foot, and then slid his hand underneath the stall—all of which are reported to be signs for "cruising" at the airport. Upon being arrested, Craig denied that he was looking for a sexual encounter and provided his business card that states that he is a US Senator in the hopes of getting out of the ordeal. Instead, he was charged with "disorderly conduct;" shortly after, he immediately paid the fine and signed the petition, in turn admitting his guilt.

Craig is yet another member of the GOP who has made negative headlines within the last several months. Because the GOP has been in power for nearly 8 years and the majority of America has an unfavorable impression of the President and his Administration, bloggers jump on the chance to expose problems within the party, particularly those of hypocrisy from one with the self-labeled "moral majority."

Liberal and Conservative bloggers had fairly similar views about Larry Craig during the time frame analyzed. For the most part Liberals spoke negatively about Craig, at 66% of all conversations compared to 53% for Conservatives.
